Come on this Maine island photography adventure to explore a small, remote, enchanted island – Monhegan! (June 16-21)

Immerse yourself in island life as we explore the heart and soul of a charming, unique island with a year-round population of 65 and no paved roads and few motor-vehicles. Let your experiences inform your image making. This Monhegan Photography Workshop is fun, adventurous, educational, and yet relaxing. Think “Adult Summer Photo Camp”. Days are full, but not rushed. Discover Monhegan’s tranquility and natural beauty that for many years has drawn artists and travelers. Those who have been inspired by its charm include well known artists such as Rockwell Kent, James Fitzgerald, George Bellows, Robert Henri, and Jamie Wyeth. You’ll be stepping back in time when your reach this unbridged island, 10 miles from the mainland.

Monhegan Island Light was established in 1824 and is the second highest lighthouse in Maine. Our photography workshop will explore after dark.

DATES: June 16-21

TOUR PRICE: $1150, includes photo instruction and tour planner. No fee for non-photographing companions who are welcome to join outings and group meals, but no access to photography sessions.

REGISTRATION: (Option to pay a $400 deposit, balance is due 60 days before your tour.)

  • If you’d like to pay for your Monhegan Photography Workshop with a credit card you will need to go through the online booking by clicking the big green Book Now button. There will be a service charge of 6% by the booking company.
  • If you’d like to pay with cash or check, contact me for a registration form. Fill it out and send along with a minimum deposit of $400. Your balance is due 60 days before the tour date.

Built in 1840s as a single family home, Monhegan House Inn’s long tradition of friendly, authentic island hospitality started in 1870. After many renovations and expansions, the inn offers 28 guest rooms and a cozy, comfortable stay in the heart of the village at 1 Main Street. Your room rate includes a 3-course 5-star breakfast.

Rooms on the first, second, and third floors utilize shared bath facilities on the first and second floor. Two suites on the ground floor have private baths. There is no elevator in the building. Once you have registered for your tour, you’ll receive your booking information. Their cancellation policy applies. Travel insurance is recommended. Sample Itinerary: Monhegan Photo Workshop

You are welcome to participate as much or as little as you wish. Our itinerary is dependent on weather and other unforeseen circumstances.

Sunday: Arrival Day

  • 4:30pm meet & greet at our inn
  • Early dinner
  • Walk through village and sunset shoot

Options for the rest of the week:

  • Morning – sunrise shoot, breakfast, mid-morning photo discussion, nature preserve hike and other nearby areas of interest
  • Afternoon – mid-day break; lunch, nap, downloading, private meeting with Dee, group discussions, explore the village, gallery visit, explore the cemetery, take a boat ride around the island to see the cliff side from the water.
  • Evening – dinner break, sunset shoot, stroll the village after the day visitors leave, shoot mixed lighting scenes, image review.

CANCELLATION POLICY: As with all my tours, for the Monhegan Photography Workshop I will give a complete refund in the event that I need to cancel the tour for any reasons.

  • If you need to cancel your registration more than 60 days before the start of the event, your tour fee will be refunded to you, minus a $150 processing fee.
  • If you cancel 59 – 31 days before the start of the event, 50% of your tour fee (which will include the processing fee) will be refunded.
  • There is no refund if you cancel 30 days or less from the start of the tour.
  • To cancel you must contact me to activate the cancellation and to make sure the refund goes through properly.
  • I suggest that you consider travel insurance.
